Auction lots to help raise funds for Katharine House Hospice
Katharine House Hospice looks set to get something of an early Christmas present this year, with a number of lots in local auction house Cuttlestones’ 2nd December Fine Art Sale being sold with proceeds to be donated to the charity.
In hugely charitable spirit, one lady has donated the contents of her substantial wine cellar for auction whilst another local gentleman, whose wife is presently being cared for at the hospice, has hand crafted a beautiful wooden rocking horse to be sold.
The generous cellar consists of some 250 bottles of wines and spirits, including 50 bottles of champagne and some rather special bottles of ‘First Cask’ Whisky dating from 1977 through to the 90s, all with cask and bottle numbers from Speyside, Orkney and the Highlands. The vendor initially approached Andrew Wilson of Old School Wines, who also acts as Cuttlestones’ wine expert, regarding the sale, and Andrew has high hopes for a good result:
“Once again we found a ‘treasure chest’ of interesting wines and spirits in the unlikely ownership of a kindly elderly lady. These had been collected by the lady’s late husband and also by a friend, so it is in fact the contents of not one but two good cellars.”
“Of particular interest is a large collection of single cask single malt Scotch whiskies, which we expect to sell well just before Christmas. With all the proceeds from the sale of this particular cellar to be donated to Katharine House Hospice at the request of the vendor, we hope that bidders will recognise this generosity and bid accordingly.”
The rocking horse, meanwhile, has been crafted specifically to raise funds for this worthy local cause and the vendor has requested that proceeds be split equally between the charity’s in-patient unit and day care centre. As Cuttlestones’ MD and Head Auctioneer Ben Gamble explains, it presents a unique opportunity:
“This is a truly beautiful piece of craftsmanship and it’s a real one-off; if anyone is looking for a very special Christmas present then this could be it – with the added bonus on knowing that every penny it achieves will go direct toward helping Katharine House continue its outstanding work. We’re delighted to offer our services and aim to achieve the best possible prices for the charity. It’s also a great way to kick-start our relationship with Katharine House Hospice, which we have nominated as our ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2012.”
The mystery philanthropists’ wine cellar and rocking horse will go under the hammer on Friday 2nd December at 10am, alongside a very strong Fine Art catalogue that includes silver, decorative antiques, paintings, furniture and much more.
Full details of all lots will be available at www.cuttlestones.co.uk from Friday, 25th November. Alternatively call 01785 714905 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
